Remaking one scene from Goodfellas was one thing; making a 3.5-hour movie full of actors of varying ages was another. Helman had a proof of concept, but he still had to develop the technology to allow Scorsese to film his movie the way he wanted to. That development process would take two years. Finishing the whole film would take twice that long. “For four years it was building a Ferrari,” he says, “while you’re running the grand prix.”

Netflix plans to invest Rs 3,000cr in India

…here’s why it is confident about the Indian market

Its first Indian original series Sacred Games (Season 1) had two out of three viewers streaming the show from outside India. Another original Ghoul, starring Radhika Apte, was watched in the US, the UK, Australia and Canada.

In these markets, 45 percent watched Ghoul with English dubbing and 37 percent watched it with English subtitles. There’s more, as Mightly Little Bheem became the second most-watched kids original animated series on Netflix worldwide.

No wonder Netflix is planning to invest as much as Rs 3,000 crore in India next year.

In the world that surrounds me, Bob Iger, Ted Sarandos, Tim Cook and Eddie Cue, Jeff Bezos. These are the greatest of them all. And one that I had a very bumpy relationship with was Steve Jobs. I made that very first deal for Pixar at Disney, the three picture deal that started with Toy Story. And I don’t know how many people this is true of, I’m told it’s not a lot, that in Steve Jobs’ world, people fell into one of two categories. You either were a shithead or a genius, and I had the distinction of having been both several times. I’m told that usually when you’re a shithead you never recover. And those were literally the words. I kind of ping ponged back and forth. No question [Steve Jobs was] brilliant, inspiring.
