Even though it was the awesome threesome of Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand who will always be remembered as the three superstars of the 50s and 60s, it was their peer, actor Rajendra Kumar who was called Jubilee Kumar, earning that coveted title because of the stupendous box office success of his films.
Those were the days of a small release, with prints shared by theatres in a single city. A movie, which enjoyed a silver jubilee (which ran for 25 weeks usually in a single theatre) would definitely qualify for a hit and a golden jubilee (which ran for 50 weeks), was a blockbuster.
